Information about autism spectrum disorders

Disorders of the autism spectrum are estimated to affect at least 1% of the population, approximately 40,000 people in New Zealand. As the name suggests, there is a spectrum of symptoms, however people with the condition share features of impaired social understanding, language and communication, and often display repetitive behaviours with the inability to develop a broad range of interests.
